Rod Coote – Ghost Town

Newcastle Indie pop/folk Australian artist Rod Coote debuts a polished new sound with his latest single, Ghost Town. Produced by Garrett Kato (Tones and I, Ziggy Alberts, Lachlan Edwards, Riley Pearce and Pete Murray), Ghost Town sees Rod pushing his sound to new heights.

Originally from rural Australia, Rod cut his teeth busking the streets of his hometown Manilla before making the move to the coastal city of Newcastle. Ghost Town was written during a reflective period after Rod returned to his hometown after spending some years away.

Speaking about the new song, the singer reveals: “I initially began exploring the concept of a ‘Ghost Town’ by reflecting on my own experience of leaving the sleepy rural hometown where I spent most of my youth (Manilla) then returning again after a few years past to find the place you once knew didn’t feel like home anymore. I wanted this song to capture this experience and the feeling that you are a ‘ghost’ haunting a place that you once lived in but am no longer. Once the Covid pandemic kicked off, I became inspired by the eerie emptiness of streets in Newcastle and in cities across the world, and it started drawing resemblances to the small town I once grew up in.”

Following the release of Ghost Town, Rod has an additional two singles, Summer Sun set to be released in November 2020 and another collaborative track set to drop early 2021. Rod is also planning on playing a regional tour along Australia’s east coast during Summer 2020/2021
