COQUÍ is the alias of singer/songwriter/producer Samuel Jacob Lopez Jr. from Los Angeles, CA. Growing up with music, most of Sam’s musical influences were passed down to him by his dad, a club DJ from Brooklyn; as well as his mother, a Puerto Rican salsa dancer. Disco & classic house echoed throughout his youth, while early 90’s hip-hop & punk rock played the soundtrack to his teen years skateboarding in Southern California.
Throughout the years, Sam has slowly worked his way up the musical ladder, making a name for himself working in the studio with artists ranging from Young The Giant to Crystal Castles as well as touring the globe with 30 Seconds To Mars. Inspired by modern hip hop, skateboard culture, and psychedelics, COQUÍ’s sound flirts with nostalgic soundscapes and genre bending production techniques.
