adidas x Parley Run For The Oceans turns into a global movement

For the second consecutive year, adidas and Parley for the Oceans are raising awareness about harmful plastic pollution by hosting a series of runs in several key cities including LA, New York, Paris, Berlin, London, Barcelona, Milan and Shanghai, as well as mobilizing runners worldwide. .

surfing sound waves team joined the movement in Los Angeles and ran in support of the cause.

On Friday night, adidas x Parley hosted “Run for the Oceans” – a 5K run and celebration in LA – and brought together runners, ocean ambassadors, environmentalists, pro athletes, celebrities, and influencers to inspire collective action and affect positive change for the oceans. Taking the initiative to the next level, adidas is matching every kilometer run with one dollar – up to the first one million kilometers – to support the Parley Ocean Plastic Program.

The experience started at Temescal Gateway Park in Pacific Palisades where runners learned more about the Parley A.I.R. strategy ( which stands for Avoiding, Intercepting, and Redesigning plastic) before the run kicked off with thousands of runners logging miles around the course in the park and hiking with a beautiful ocean view.

Runners were joined by singer Jhene Aiko and actor Scott Eastwood, who has been a longtime supporter of the cause and continuously works on various projects to raise awareness for ocean conservation. Additional special guests included Arizona Cardinals first-round draft pick Josh Rosen; 2016 WNBA MVP and four-time WNBA All-Star of the Los Angeles Sparks, Nneka Ogwumike, and teammate Chelsea Gray.

After the run, guests were encouraged to join the celebration that included a performance by Anderson .Paak and The Free Nationals who absolutely rocked the house with his hit songs “Come Down”, “The Waters” and many more.

adidas x Parley have made the movement accessible for all by encouraging people all around the world to participate in this initiative through the Runtastic App. Anyone can join simply by running and making sure each kilometer counts through the app between June 8 and July 8, and adidas will match each kilometer with a donation to the Parley Ocean Plastic Program..

adidas has always been one of the few major companies that strives to become more sustainable and eco-friendly all-around (One of the brand’s sustainability goals is to use repurposed ocean plastic in all of its products by 2024). With Run For The Oceans 2018, adidas once again proved to be the perfect fusion of sports, culture and socially responsible innovation and inspired people across the globe to make a difference..
